McDonald's Global Web Ordering

Platform engineer and code owner on the Global Web Application (GWA): runtime configuration, cart architecture, store locator, session handling, and observability.

Role
Software Engineer III

Highlights

  • Led the move to server-injected runtime configuration so one build promotes across environments and markets.
  • Architected the shopping cart from scratch in Zustand: customizations, upcharges, totals, and error recovery.
  • Built the store locator with Google Maps and multi-API orchestration; upgraded store search with distance sorting.
  • Code owner for routing and error-boundary standards; added New Relic telemetry and Playwright E2E gates.

The problem

One Next.js codebase serves many markets. Baking environment values into the build meant rebuilding per environment and made market rollouts slow and fragile.

What I built

A server-injected runtime configuration layer, a modular, typed Zustand cart engine, and middleware-to-client session sync with token caching to remove silent auth failures.

Quality & reliability

CI gates with Storybook build verification and Playwright E2E suites, New Relic observability, and fast incident response on production ordering blockers.
